It happens to the best of us.  You’re up way past your bedtime with a sick child or a work deadline.  Or a marathon Netflix binge sesh!  After a long night, it’s so easy to collapse into bed without properly cleansing your skin.  Definitely not a good look, but luckily there’s hope for all of us.

In order to prevent breakouts and dull skin, here are some steps to do right away to refresh your skin and clear your pores:

Remove your makeup and cleanse your skin. Use a gentle cleanser to remove any sad remains of yesterday’s makeup.  These days, jelly cleansers are all the rave for good reason –they are a good way to get squeaky clean without the harsh ingredients found in many foaming face washes.

Exfoliate with a clay mask. Clay masks with an exfoliating texture can help unclog skin, removing dead skin cells and minimize pores. While any exfoliating scrub can help with this process, clay in particular helps to absorb impurities.

Use eye-drops and under-eye pads to take care of your eyes. If your eyes are red and puffy because of your mascara (or if you ALSO slept in your contact lenses!) then refresh your eyes with eye drops to bring back some moisture, and rehydrate with under-eye pads.

Rebalance with serums and mists. Mists like rosewater can help you rebalance the natural pH layer of your skin that may be out of whack after sleeping in your makeup.

Moisturize. Just like you’re going to need to hydrate yourself after a night of drinking, hydrate your skin with moisturizing creams in order to prevent it from drying out.

Take a Day Off. We’re talking makeup, not work!  If your skin didn’t get its chance to breathe and repair overnight, you may want to give it some time during the day.  Instead of a full face of makeup, consider stopping your beauty routine at the moisturizing step and skipping color cosmetics.  Add eyeliner and mascara for eyes that pop against your natural glowing skin, and pair with a nude lip color.  You’ll look fresh and your skin will thank you.

Try using your Yubi Buff Brush with each of these steps for an extra luxurious, spa-like experience.  Most importantly, don’t beat yourself up!  Self-care is important for mental health, but sometimes a break from routine can refresh the spirit.  Especially when it involves back to back episodes of Game of Thrones.
